What is affiliate marketing online all about? Is this something I can do? Well yes you can! Affiliate marketing is you selling other peoples products and/or services and getting paid a commission for the sale. These can be small websites that are selling eBooks or big giants like Amazon and eBay who sell everything! The majority of companies who are online have an affiliate program.
Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to make money online and is definitely the was to go if you want the least amount of hassle. Figuring out what affiliate marketing is and how to apply it to your websites online, or your future websites, is really simple… And I’ll explain it to you.
The Broad Strokes of Affiliate Marketing
It works in 3 stages:
- Someone comes to your website
- They click on an affiliate link and are sent to the merchants website
- They buy the product and you receive a commission for a percentage of the sale
That’s it! But obviously it isn’t as easy as that otherwise everyone would be doing it wouldn’t they!
The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have create and products yourself or have to worry about storage of any tangible products. You are just the middle man who has his hand out for his cut of any sales made. You don’t have to do any customer service, process any payments or deal with any refunds.
All you have to do is get people to your website and get them to click on your affiliate links.
Where Would You Find Products To Recommend?
The majority of people who are interesting in affiliate marketing usually go to online marketplaces that offer you a wide variety of products that you can get paid commissions for. They show you the publishers (people who are selling their products on their website) and tell you who much they’re selling their product for and who percentage in commissions you will receive if they make a sale from your referral.
These marketplaces usually process all the payments as well so you will receive your commission from the original sale and not have to wait for the merchant so sort out your chunk of the sale. I think this is a good thing as you don’t have to worry about not getting paid!
The biggest three marketplaces are ClickBank, Commission Junction and Share A Sale. ClickBank are the biggest in the industry for selling digital download products online and is the most popular choice for newcomers as it’s extremely simple to sign up and get affiliate links for different products that you wish to promote. My personal favourite is Share A Sale though, pretty easy to set up still but you have excellent products you can promote and they don’t have a bad reputation like ClickBank has. So sign up to Share A Sale for sure.
Where Else Can I Learn About Affiliate Marketing?
If you want to start dabbling in affiliate marketing and wish to start your own business doing so then you can! You can start off doing just affiliate marketing and then move onto other things, but I know a lot of people who make a good income just doing affiliate marketing.
Another option would be to delve into some top class training that show you step by step how you can do this. Places like Wealthy Affiliate have trained 10,000’s of people how to do this and is the place I gained the majority of my knowledge from.
